Sonic Remedy are the Hertfordshire cover band you didn’t know you needed, but won’t forget once you’ve seen them. Born from a no-expectations jam session two years ago, this five-piece quickly realised they weren’t just tight – they were tight enough to gig. A lot.
Andy W fronts the band with powerhouse vocals and playful swagger, while Andy C keeps the low end locked down on bass. Kieran’s lead guitar solos could start fires and put them out, Graham’s rhythm guitar adds the muscle, and Jim “Lightsaber” on drums brings precision and pure energy.
The setlist? An unapologetic mash-up of rock, indie, soul and funk bangers – Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder, RHCP, Bon Jovi, and more – all designed to get people singing, dancing, and maybe even climbing onto their mate’s shoulders. Sonic Remedy live shows come with guaranteed crowd banter, glorious guitar tones, and that one guy who always yells “play Sex on Fire again!” (don’t worry, they do). This band isn’t just playing covers – they’re throwing parties.
Andy W – Vocals / Keeper of the Sacred Mixing Desk
Forged in the depths of a volcano (or possibly just the local pub), Andy’s voice is so deep and rumbly that scientists have mistaken it for minor seismic activity. Legend has it that if he sings low enough, he can communicate with whales—or at the very least, make pint glasses vibrate ominously. A towering presence both on and off stage, Andy dreams of sneaking heavier songs into the setlist, though the rest of the band remains suspicious that he’s just looking for an excuse to unleash The Growl™. When not shaking the foundations of venues with his voice, he can be found at the mixing desk—an ancient and mysterious device that only he can truly master. Some say he made a deal with the audio gods; others suspect he just read the manual. The truth remains a mystery.
Kieran – Lead Guitar / Sonic Style Icon
The youngest member of the band and easily the most kinetic, Kieran never stops moving—on stage, off stage, or possibly in his sleep. A blur of funk, flair, and flying fingers, he’s part guitarist, part windmill, part human glitter cannon. Armed with a frankly outrageous collection of guitars, Kieran can conjure practically any sound known to man (and a few known only to interdimensional beings). Whether it’s a searing solo, a wah-drenched groove, or something that sounds suspiciously like a theremin mating with a spaceship, he’s got it covered. His ever-changing hair colour, tattoos, and legendary t-shirt collection—featuring everything from psychedelic cats to existential memes—make him both the visual and sonic wildcard of the group. We never know quite how he’s going to look when he turns up to rehearsal, but we do know it’s going to be cool.
Graham – Rhythm Guitar / Vibe Regulator
Chilled, relaxed, and unshakably zen, Graham is the band’s human metronome and emotional support guitarist. While chaos swirls around him—forgotten lyrics, dodgy leads, and the occasional on-stage existential crisis—Graham remains calm, centred, and flawlessly in time. His rhythm playing is so steady, it’s rumoured that several local drummers have based their entire sense of self around his downstrokes. Reliable to a fault, Graham once played an entire gig with a string missing and didn’t tell anyone until the encore. He also seems to acquire new gear at an alarming rate—new pedals, new guitars, new mysteries that appear at rehearsal without explanation. No one’s quite sure how many bands he’s actually in, but whispers suggest it’s somewhere between three and seventeen. We just feel lucky to have him in this one.
Jim – Drums / Percussive Phenomenon
Jim’s arms are a blur, his sticks a flash, and his fills the stuff of legend. There are strong rumours—unconfirmed, but widely accepted—that he actually has more than two arms. Some say he’s the result of a freak drumming experiment gone right; others suspect mild sorcery. Either way, the man hits things with flair, fury, and frightening precision. A rhythmic chameleon, Jim plays in more bands than we can legally mention, covering styles from jazz to metal to “whatever that was last Tuesday.” He’s been known to take his drums on holiday, just in case a spontaneous beach gig breaks out, and treats his kit with the same care and affection most people reserve for family pets. Off stage, Jim becomes the band’s unofficial social secretary—chatting to everyone, charming audiences, and probably booking another gig before we’ve even packed up. During songs, if there’s a moment without drums, he’ll loudly declare it’s the perfect time to head to the bar. We’re never quite sure if he’s joking… and neither is the bartender.
Andy C – Bass / Groove Commander & Spreadsheet Sorcerer
As the descendant of an ancient Italian god of noise, Andy doesn’t just play bass—he channels it. Known across the land (well, Hertfordshire) as Dr Groove, he’s the low-end anchor of Sonic Remedy, delivering thunderous rhythms and head-nodding funk with an ease that suggests divine intervention—or at least a really good pedal chain. While others may spend years studying theory and notation, Andy has cracked the code with a more primal method: numbers. Tab numbers. It’s music reduced to its binary essence—and somehow, it works. He may not know what key we’re in, but he does know it’s the one with the 3s, 5s, and 7s in the right places. When he’s not summoning seismic frequencies with the Axe of Resonance, Andy is the band’s organisational engine, armed with spreadsheets so detailed they may be sentient. Gig dates, set lists, gear lists, snack rotation schedules—he’s got them all filed, colour-coded, and cross-referenced. On stage, he’s often spotted sporting sunglasses from his ever-expanding collection—each pair more inexplicable than the last. Behind those lenses lies a mind always locked in with the drummer, planning the next bass drop, and possibly calculating bar tab splits in real time. The groove runs deep. The spreadsheets run deeper
Chris – Guitar / Drums / Founding Father of Sonic Remedy
The founder and original architect of Sonic Remedy, Chris is the patient zero who first brought the members together and still proudly wears the badge of “Band Dad.” For two years he was at the heart of the band, laying down guitar riffs, taking turns on drums, and delivering solos and stagecraft that shaped the early Sonic Remedy sound. A man of many talents (and a few secrets), Chris later confessed that some of his “backing vocals” were nothing more than noises that sounded vaguely right. His home-made pedalboard was as legendary as his knack for picking up a song on the spot — “Hang on, let me learn it,” he’d say, before casually nailing it after one listen (to the frustration of everyone else). Though he’s since moved on to pound the drums for Black Carrot, Chris remains forever part of the Remedy family and is always on standby when needed — proof that once you’re in Sonic Remedy, you never really leave.
James – Drums
James held down the drum throne for a year, bringing both precision and personality to Sonic Remedy. He was heavily influenced by his parents (who quickly became the band’s biggest superfans — and we still love seeing them at gigs), and somehow managed to sneak plenty of The Jam into his style. Too young to have lived through the glory days of Britpop, James still played like it was in his blood. On stage, he was as much about camaraderie as rhythm — few moments were more reliable than James raising a glass with Andy C and knocking back a gin and tonic during the briefest of breaks. Though he’s since moved to Bristol and reinvented himself as Machine Mirage (swapping drums for guitar and recording original music), James remains part of the extended Remedy family and is always ready to step back in on drums if needed.
